Each year, NCICU holds administrative meetings, conferences, and special events, and creates publications to support, represent, and advocate for North Carolina independent higher education. These events and programs offer a range of sponsorship opportunities.
Corporate sponsorships help support the NCICU Ethics Bowl, an academic program that challenges students at North Carolina’s independent colleges and universities to analyze and discuss complex ethical issues. Through campus-based projects and a statewide competition, students strengthen their critical thinking skills while engaging with faculty, business, and community leaders to explore real-world ethical challenges.
Ethics Bowl
Each year, NCICU hosts meetings for more than 13 administrative and faculty groups from our 35 colleges and universities. Meetings allow campuses to share best practices, hear from regionally and nationally known speakers, collaborate on problems and challenges, and create and nurture relationships crucial to the success of future collaborative initiatives. Examples of groups that meet at least annually include presidents, chief financial officers, chief academic officers, chief development officers, chief student affairs officers, and financial aid directors.
Annual & Administrative Meetings
The State of North Carolina Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium is a collaboration of NCICU and the University of North Carolina system. SNCURCS showcases NC undergraduate student research and creative work, providing undergraduate scholars across all fields a forum to share their results through posters, presentations, performances, and works of art. With a mentor’s approval, any undergraduate student enrolled at a North Carolina institution of higher education can submit an abstract for inclusion in the symposium. NCICU awards competitive stipends ranging from $300 to $600 each to students performing undergraduate research at NCICU’s colleges and universities in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields of study. Stipends are funded by the undergraduate research endowment established by NCICU, supported by corporate and foundation donors.

NCICU is committed to access to higher education for low-income and first-generation students. We seek funds to develop specific programming to ensure the success of those students once enrolled. NCICU is currently administering the following grant-funded programs:
iBELONG MENTORING PROGRAM, designed to increase persistence, retention, and/or graduation rates of students on campus through programmatic efforts to mentor, to coach, and to make forums available for the students to explore various career opportunities.
Faculty-Student STEM mentoring Program, a three-year program that seeks to improve student retention and graduation rates among first-generation college students majoring in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM).
A limited number of institutions can participate in these programs. Additional funding would allow NCICU to expand and enhance its programs to achieve greater impact across the state.
